I have become a great fan of the series White Collar. The series revolves around an FBI Officer Peter Burke who with the aid of a master forger cum money launderer cum FBI’s consultant, Neal Caffrey solve white collar criminals.

I think Neal Caffrey is very cute and he rocks.

I have become a big fan of the serial “Pyaar ki yeh ek kahani”, courtesy my fixation with “Vampires”. I think that Abhay Raichand is very cute.

Case of classic confusion

I have a very unique name which becomes a “tongue twister” when people have to address me. So they have all devised their own nicknames for me. I am very happy when they address me with this nickname and have become quite used to it. But little did i know that it would lead to so much confusion which I could not even in my wildest dreams anticipate.

Picture a scenario: A person in my organization with whom I interact with (read: talk) on a regular basis, we interact a lot for our official work, lately he is asking me certain queries which are somewhat outside my regular scope of activities but I am accustomed to being asked all sorts of weird queries so I do not mind. So time comes that we need to meet in person and a meeting is fixed. In the meeting the “person” realised that I was not the one he wanted to meet. He was thinking that I was someone else. And when we realised the “gravity” of the situation, we all burst out laughing.

I used to think that such situations are classic “filmy” situations which happen only in reel life and not in real life. But no, I was wrong, such things happen in the life of an “aam aadmi” like me also.

After a haitus

I realised that it is more than 10 months since I visited my blog, yes MY BLOG that was supposed to be a mirror of the experiences in my day to day life and all about the small things that really make life interesting. And then i began to analyze the reasons for my so called “default”:

a) I was very busy (So what, you did not forget to eat, sleep, breathe during that time)

b) I was very tired (So what, that did not stop you from visiting various social networking sites and do some random surfing therein)

c) I was very caught up in life (So what, does that mean that you stopped doing the things that were near to your heart)

Hmm, botttomline was that I was too lazy and caught up in some immature fantasies and dirty office politics.

But now, I have changed my life for the good and I want to keep my creative juices flowing as i have realised that it keeps me happy, keeps me contended, keep me sane.

So looking forward to more interaction of “Me” and my “Blog”

When is ECLIPSE releasing in India? Worldwide the release date is supposed to be this June end. But I am not sure about India. Till now there are no promos and no publicity campaigns. I hope it releases fast. I am dying to see Robert Pattinson back in action.

Wikipedia

There was a time when I was completely addicted to Wikipedia and used to refer to it atleast twice or thrice a day – either for some random research or just timepass. And then there was a change – a change of job, a new venture and realized that Wikipedia became a faint, long lost memory; I had no time to go to this website.

And today when I visited it, I was in for a shock – the website had taken a new look, the search page was not there were it used to be, where it was supposed to be, where I expected it to be. I taxed my memory, stressed my eyes and found out the “invisible” search bar.

It will take me some time to get used to this new look and I am sure that it will become another routine for me.

Step Mother

I have given my blog a very step motherly treatment for quite some time. I do not like this behaviour of mine and have decided that this must stop. Yes, I have decided to write at least three posts per week. Have many of them lined up and will post them all soon.

Movie Exchange

I heard a new buzz today “Movie Exchange”. It is not exchange of movies between two people but “Exchange” as in “Stock Exchange”. Just as shares are traded on a stock exchange, commodities are traded on a Multi Commodity Stock Exchange, movies can be traded on a Movie Exchange. The US Govt and Cantor Fitzgerald have come into an agreement wherein Cantor Fitzgerald would be instrumental in setting up a Movie Exchange.

Individual investors can invest in the movies and bear the risks akin to a producer; the producer will get an opportunity to hedge his risk. It might turn into a win win situation for the producers but more like a loss loss situation for the individual investor. It is very difficult to estimate and predict the success/ failure of any movie.

So people think twice before even thinking about dabbling in Movie Exchange.

Organizing Meetings

In my first job, one of the tasks I was entrusted was to “organize” meetings – not the actual organization but finding out the appropriate time when all the participants would be available, coordinate with all the participants to set up the meeting and also attend the meetings. Seems like a very pretty simple task but it was not.

Most of the participants were based in US. US has four different time zones, and I was not familiar with its topography. So the first task was to find out in which time zone would the given city fall. And then find out the time difference with Indian time – not to forget that US has daylight savings also. Generally a meeting with US people meant anytime after 9 p.m. India time. I remember we had a weekly meeting at 10 p.m. India time for around 4 months. I used to hate that meeting as it would get over by 10.45-11 p.m. and it used to be post midnight by the time I used to reach home. (Those were the days I do not want to ever see again)

Even more challenging was the situation when all the participants were from different time zones. To arrive at a mutual time was punishing (yes punishing for me as I had to work out the logistics and many times it used to take me an entire day to convene the meeting – yes as I had to often coordinate with the secretaries of those people, go back n forth, persuade them to reschedule the already existing meetings et al). The best meeting that I arranged consisted of participants from San Francisco, New York, London, Paris and India.

And yes, not to forget the names. The names of the participants were so unique that I could not distinguish whether the person was a male or female. Many times I have address as Ms. as Mr. and Mr. as Ms and faced the music of my boss also.

Those were the fun days and a very nice learning experience.
